" Arise, O prophet, hark and see.
Be filled with utter My demands… "
A. Pushkin “Prophet"
(Translated by Y. Bonver)
The snow-white winged horse with a naked rider is soaring. It looks like a ship with a narrow rostrum that is crossing the river Styx. Between the horse’s wings we see the sleeping poet.
Pegasus has tenderly gripped the poet’s weightless elongated body and bellowed. The Gods’ will is executed.
The poet’s star has been lit in the sky and will shine eternally. The fate has fulfilled. The genius was born.
The horse’s mane is like a cloud and is joined to the poet. One of the poet’s hands is already merged with the Pegasus’s wing: “and you are already winged; the Gods are awaiting you”.
The frontier at which the rider finds himself is both torturing and beautiful. There one can nurture one’s soul and touch the unknown.
The poet’s head is covered by a top hat, which is the only earthly piece of clothes on his body. The hat is a sign of the 19th century and a reminder of the fact that Pushkin was a lover of the pleasures of life.
The poet’s body still bears the signs of earthly torments, but its transformation has already begun. It is elongating, getting thin and in a moment it will become a luminous substance of a star.
"Erected is my monument in minds,
The path to it will never rank with weeds… "
